Before opening his first shop, partner and founder Iain Mellis had worked in the British cheese industry for almost 15 years. For some time he had felt that there was a lack of opportunity to buy high quality farmhouse cheese, both in the retail and wholesale sector. Mellis Cheesemongers have now been trading for over 25 years, bringing together producers and consumers for mutual benefit. The aim for the future is to continue this process while continually striving to improve.

LANARK BLUE - A popular Ewes' milk cheese from Lanarkshire, Scotland. This cheese has a semi-soft texture with a nice sweet and salty bite.

Ingredients: Raw Sheeps milk, salt, vegetarian rennet

TALEGGIO - a semi-soft, washed-rind cheese with a slightly sweet, deep, nutty flavour and soft creamy texture.

Ingredients: Raw Cows milk, salt, traditional rennet

COMTE - the classic Comte. Lovely creamy texture with a sharp and nutty finish. We age our Comte for 22 months.

MORBIER AOP - A Raclette like cheese with a smooth and creamy texture. They separate the days milking with a layer of tasteless vegetable ash. A strong flavour with a nice bite!

ISLE OF MULL CHEDDAR - A fantastically sharp and salty cheddar made on the Isle of Mull. Aged for 18 months on the west coast of Scotland.

BLUE STILTON - Made by Colton Basset Dairy in Nottinghamshire. This classic blue stilton is wonderfully creamy and mild tasting.

AULD REEKIE - A smoked cheese from the cheesemakers at Campus O'May. Smoked over whisky barrel shavings and named after Edinburgh.

BRIE DE MEAUX - a classic French brie. Strong in flavour, silky and smooth in texture.

DURRUS - A semi-soft Irish cheese with a delicious nutty, herby flavour. Made in Coomkeen, Co Cork.

SELLES SUR CHER - a strong and creamy cheese with a wonderful aftertaste. Lightly dusted with salted charcoal.

TOMME DE SAVOIE - made from skimmed milk thus the fat content is less, this is a soft cows cheese from the French Alps.
