Based in a 100 year old butcher’s shop in Hawick, Going Native specialises in meat from the traditional breeds of the area. The hardy Galloway, Blue Grey, Shorthorn cattle are among the native breeds bred over generations to thrive in the uplands of the Southern Scotland and the Border hills. Native breeds adapted to their environment are an essential part of a truly sustainable farming system which forms the backbone of life in the uplands. Unlike modern breeds of cattle, the native breeds don’t need high inputs of expensive imported protein. They produce good meat on a grass and forage-based diet. The native breeds have many qualities in common: naturally slow-growing, their meat has had time to develop flavour. It is well marbled and high in the Omega 3 good fats, thanks to hill pasture and life outdoors! Dry-aged on the bone, this is meat with taste and character – meat worth cooking and enjoying eating! Support hill farming with a true taste of the Border hills!

PLEASE NOTE - to guarantee the fresh joint you want, we need to know by Sunday evening. These can then be delivered or collected on Friday, or over the weekend. Out with these times, we cannot guarantee a roast size, but may still be able to offer you a frozen one. Also, please note these are average weights and your joint may vary from this slightly.
