September Newsletter

September 20, 2022

Really, it's only been 4 weeks since I sent out our last newsletter and can't believe how much I have to tell you about!

From pairing up with Belhaven Brewery and Archerfield House at Fringe By The Sea, to trialing our delicious new range of pork tomahawks or 'tomaporks' as they are affectionately nick named. We have also been working with Jo's Kitchen to offer delicious ready meals (which may include a certain Granny Brand's shepherd pie recipe!) to offer customers, so keep an eye out for these appearing in the shop soon. Due to demand, we have more Hampshire Down mutton arriving this Thursday for you and if you didn't try our new Scotch pies last week get in quick, they were so yummy! New suppliers this month include Supernature and Sea Crack and for those hard-working gardeners the lovely Lothian Lavender hand cream is back in stock! Last but not least, we're planning to hold a monthly market right here at East Fortune Farm, showcasing and promoting the best suppliers East Lothian has to offer.

As always, it's been a busy month on the farm and Grandpa Brand got a great trade at St Boswell's market last week selling 20 of our Hampshire Down spring lambs and think I may have sold our last shearling tup for the year with a buyer coming to the farm this week.  Ali and Louise got a surprise this morning whilst out feeding the pigs by finding one of our sows had farrowed twelve piglets, which for being outdoors is a great number to have had and shows how well the herd are doing.  We are excited to be supplying Gilmour Butchers with Saddleback carcasses as well now. They are a great local family business pushing local produce forward.

Ritchie and Robert are both eating me out of the fridge but thriving at school, with Ritchie having a careers evening soon - he's only 12 but now nearly 6ft like his Dad. Our crazy young collie Tess had to spend the night at Dick Vets after a traumatic van accident on the main road outside the farm but thankfully she was extremely lucky and walked away with no broken bones. Grandpa Donaldson is back from his holidays - hurrah! The recycling mountain has gone - welcome home Dad.

Plus, lots more so I hope you enjoy it!

See you all soon, Jane and Team Brand.
